Dr Jaime Chica

Dr.
Jaime Chica

Dr. Jaime Chica studied medicine at La Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia, graduating as a Medical Doctor and Surgeon in 1983. During his rural year at the Police Hospital in Cali, Dr. Chica grew with an interest for the field of chiropractic medicine. While working at the hospital, Dr. Chica had a patient suffering of chronic severe low back pain who, being treated with normal procedures and traditional medications, showed no signs of improvement. Although chiropractic medicine was not well known in Colombia, Dr. Chica’s pastor had mentioned being treated by a chiropractor in USA.

Background

Dr. Chica decided to perform a chiropractic procedure on the patient which to his surprise evidenced the patient’s rapid improvement. This kindled his curiosity regarding the field of chiropractic, which led to his decision to study chiropractic medicine in USA with the purpose of returning to Colombia and introducing it in Cali, Colombia. He studied at Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, graduating with honors (Suma Cum Laude) in 1988. After graduating, Dr. Chica returned to Colombia, where he would be the only chiropractor in Cali, a city of two million people. He had a successful practice at Centro Médico Quiropráctico, where he worked both as a doctor and chiropractor. Simultaneously, Dr. Chica was serving as co-pastor of Ekklesia Centro Cristiano Colombiano, a non-denominational charismatic church. He was also the director of the San Lucas ministry, the church´s health department, where, along with the physical aspect of the patient, the spiritual and emotional aspect of the patient were emphasized. He was successful in treating patients with chronic diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, and hypertension by fasting. After the assassination of his pastor, Julio Cesar Ruibal, the church asked Dr. Chica to assume the leadership of the church as the Senior Pastor, and the ministries which now included the clinic, a school, a radio and a TV station in addition to attending his practice. To add to the responsibilities of directing all of these ministries, the area was a central point in the continuing drug wars. The dangers to the church became more personal. After pastoring the church for two years, Dr. Chica left the country on March of 1998 due to religious persecution and threats to his life and his family. He settled down in Northern Virginia, where he established his practice and has been working at Columbia Pike Chiropractic center since 1999.
